Abstract: Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with addition of 0.08wt.% of cement were incorporated to cement paste with different water to cement ratio. The mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. Results show that the strength of the composites is significantly improved, the flexural strength of the composite with water to cement ratio of 0.35 increased by 40.4%. The pore structure and porosity of the composites were measured by mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), and the results indicate that the incorporation of MWCNTs could decrease the porosity and concentrate the pore size distribution of the composites. The microstructure test carried out by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE SEM) shown that MWCNTs act as bridges and networks across cracks and voids, and the interface bond strength between the nanotubes and matrix is strong enough to guarantee the load transfer.
