Abstract: This paper monitored the hydration process for fresh mixing pastes, mortars and concretes using a non-contact electrical resistivity measurement. The bulk resistivity development (ρ(t)-t curves) of fresh paste, mortar and concrete, with various water cement ratios, were obtained for the period from casting to the age of 24 hours. The kinetics parameter Km and D were obtained from the electrical resistivity development of fresh concrete during the decelerating period of hydration process.
The transition point on the transition region marks setting to hardening process. Cement paste with a lower W/C or the addition of aggregate has a higher Km, indicating that Parameter Km represents the rate of densification of the cement matrix during hydration. The pastes, mortars and concretes have quite similar D values, indicating that parameter D represents the hydration rate of a cement particle in the hydration system.
