Abstract: To solve plastic cracking problem on cement cross-section area, shrinkage reduce agent (SRA) and evaporation reducer (ER) were applied to characterize its effect on water evaporation, settlement and cracking under four different conditions. A special specimen was developed which made the cross-section area under simultaneous function of plastic settlement and shrinkage. The plastic settlement was monitored by moveable laser sensors, and the cracking on cement surface was first acquired by CCD camera and then analyzed by Image Pro-plus method. Results indicated that at the cross-section area, plastic settlement might be the main driving force of cracking. Hence, SRA which might increase settlement was not proper method to solve cracking problem at such area, but resistance of water evaporation seemed to have some good impaction.
