Abstract: By using the ASR concrete, experiments were performed for 9 specimens to simulate the actual structures suffering ASR deterioration. The specimens were long-term exposed at outdoor environment. The parameters of them were the time and the promoting additive (if there were corrosions). The internal cracks could be observed by the bar-shaped scanner, of which applicability and accuracy could be evaluated. It was confirmed as the characteristic that short cracks developed along with the shape of aggregate particles in the interiors of the specimens. By adding promoting additive NaCl and NaOH into two specimens, it was observed that cracking positions of external and internal cracks were almost similar; while it was different for the number of internal cracks. By using the bar-shaped scanner to observe the internal cracks on small size cores, the accuracy was influenced by the positions of cutting holes and there were errors on the decisions of the cracks ends.
