Abstract: The risk of concrete thermal instability caused by fire was shown in several previous studies. The phenomenon involved coupled heat and mass transfers in concrete and its thermomechanical behavior. In order to understand the behavior of heated concrete, measurements of temperature, vapor pressure and mass loss were performed on large cylindrical concrete specimens (diameter of 60 cm and height of 60 cm). Specimens were subjected to a heating-cooling cycle from the room temperature to 600°C. Two concrete compositions were tested: normal concrete and high performance concrete. The experimental results show a correlation between the various measurements and the impact of the concrete composition on its behavior at high temperature.
