Abstract: The aim of this study is to develop a replacement board for gypsum. Various development
iterations have led to use wood particles, steatite powder and Portland cement. The resulting board
is obtained in a relatively short curing period since steatite powder appears to speed up the
reaction. Furthermore, the surface of the board is of good quality, comparable to the paper surface
of the gypsum but without paper on it. Screw resistance is improved by 51%, and flexural
properties by 214%. Fire properties are currently under testing but preliminary results seems to
indicate a performance similar to gypsum.
