Abstract: In the present study, we perform the accelerated carbonation without and with other gases i.e.,
SO2 and NO2 on Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCA) in order to analyze and quantify the
CO2 capture capacity. Due to the potential formation of deleterious sulfate compounds e.g;
gypsum; ettringite, it is important to determine the effect of multi-component gas mixtures on
accelerated carbonation process of RCA. At the first step, the RCA is carbonated at high
concentration of CO2, i.e. 15%wt. The effect of size of the sample on carbonation front and
duration of full carbonation are analyzed. The Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) has been
achieved to estimate the quantity of CO2 during the carbonation. Afterward, the recycled
concrete aggregate samples are subjected to the multi-component gas mixture, e.g. CO2 /
NO2/ SO2. At the second step, new concrete is also analyzed during gas mixture carbonation
to determine the quantity of CaCO3, which may be produced during the curing period as well
as gas mixture carbonation.
