Abstract: The roadway support panels with traditional reinforcement and fiber reinforcement, which resist greater rock formation pressures have been developed in the Velenje Lignite Mine, Slovenia. Because of crack propagation in length direction as well in width direction is prevented by presence of fibers in concrete, fibers keep the strength from falling after first crack. This is one of the fundamental function of fibers in concrete. Bond between concrete and steel bars is increased as well, by bridging effect of fibers. Steel fibers were used in the panels of first generation and after, both steel and polypropylene fibers were used in all further types of the panels. Results of investigations of FRC specimens and panels are shown in the paper. Improvement in bearing capacity of the panels with traditional steel reinforcement and fiber reinforcement is evident from their performance, when they are installed in the mine roadway support under geomechanically poor conditions.
