Abstract: The Italian precast production of prestressed roof elements is dominated by thin-webbed open cross section profiles. The behaviors of three prestressed roof elements under longitudinal bending have been investigated by means of full-scale tests. The transverse reinforcement was made of either steel fibers or welded mesh fabric. The experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of replacing welded mesh with steel reinforcing fibers, leading to a better control of transverse bending effects, and an improved strength and ductility.
