Abstract: In this contribution, a numerical concept of contact area is introduced to describe the interconnectivity of hydrating cement products. The intrinsic relationship between compressive strength and the contact area of cement paste are explored. A theoretical model is proposed based on the concept of contact area in order to predict the compressive strength of cement paste.
With the help of cement hydration model HYMOSTRUC3D, three cement pastes with w/c ratio 0.35, 0.50 and 0.60 are simulated. The predicted compressive strength is compared with experiments and the results are discussed. A good agreement is found between simulation and experiment, which leads to the conclusion that this model shows a good capacity in predicting the compressive strenght of cement paste in the early age.
