Abstract:
A seismic retrofit of an RC building frame was developed using shear wall, medium wall and sidewall consisting of ultra high strength fiber reinforced concrete (UFC) panels. To investigate the effect, static loading tests were conducted. UFC sidewalls and medium walls strengthened the existing columns and walls appropriately. The performance of the sidewall varied, depending on how UFC panels and the column were jointed. UFC medium wall fractured at the joint between the panel and RC frame, and the panel was scarcely damaged. UFC shear wall and that with lattice openings both fractured with the shear capacity. The maximum force of the wall without openings was 1.5 times the RC shear wall, which was twice the thickness. Even the wall with lattice openings showed 85% of the RC shear wall in maximum force. From the above results, the capability of thin, lightweight seismic retrofit using UFC was demonstrated.
