Abstract: Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is a pretty well known technology. Self-compacting concrete is widely used in developed countries such as Japan, Europe and US. In other hand, one of the major concreting problems in developing countries is the compaction of concrete.
Several incorrect compaction procedures are followed during construction. These procedures often create problems in both fresh and hardened concrete. In this paper we investigate the use of available raw materials in Iran, especially limestone powder, calcium carbonate, silicafume, metakaolin and high range water reducing admixture to produce self compacting concrete. Rheological properties was determined by method of slump flow test, which measures the filling ability and flowability, by method of V-funnel and Orimet test, which shows the viscosity and by method of L-Box and U-Box test, which measures the passing ability around reinforcement. Mechanical properties of hardened concrete were investigated by compressive and splitting tensile strength tests. Obtained results reveal the feasibility of making Self compacting concrete using raw materials. Economical aspect of Self Compacting Concrete were investigated by comparing the price of materials used for making SCC and the price of corresponding normal concrete.
