Abstract: One of the obstacles regarding the production of SCC is lack of robustness, which often is ascribed to cement-admixture interaction. In some cases this can result in rejection of SCC by the industry. This paper deals with the effect of different production dates of cement on the rheology of SCC and mortar mixes. The testing program incorporated standard tests on cements, chemical analysis of cements, rheological measurements on SCC and mortar mixes with/without admixtures. First, the aim of the study was to see how big the fluctuations in rheology are when a new cement delivery is used. Second, to see if the rheology of mortar correlates with the rheology of concrete with comparable mortars. Third, to identify the constituents in cement which might have caused the fluctuations in rheology.
It was found that different production dates had a clear influence on rheology. The effect is moderate in mixes without admixtures, but far more prominent in mixes with admixtures.
