Abstract: When self-compacting concrete flows through the interspaces between steel bars, a problem can occur due to an increased pressure loss, resulting in the occurrence of non-filled parts. In this study, a model of the mechanism of this increased pressure loss is considered in which, when concrete passes through spaces between steel bars, the flow velocity of coarse aggregate is low and the volume of coarse aggregate is increased, leading to apparent increases in yield stress of concrete and pressure loss. Rheological equations are derived to model this situation according to multi-phase flow dynamics, and their veracity was confirmed by performing a visual examination of a sample of concrete. As a result, the increased pressure loss mechanism can be explained by the proposed model.
