Abstract: The aim of this paper is to study the influence of paste content of SCC on an indicator of durability, i.e. gas permeability. Five concrete mixtures were studied, with different paste contents, from 100% to 35%. The paste of the mixtures has usual paste proportions of SCC according to the literature. The air permeability of each mixture was measured after successive drying stages at 40°C. Water porosity measurements and mercury intrusion porosimetry were also carried out for the microstructure characterization. The relation between paste content and permeability can not be directly deduced from the evolution of the global porosity with paste content, since the paste content affects also the microstructure, in particular the pores distribution. In terms of practice, its relatively little influence does not make the paste content a crucial mix-design parameter regarding gas permeability.
