Abstract: In this work we reported the addition effect of synthetic zeolite 5A on the rheological and mechanical properties of self compacting concrete, made by cement with different slag content and the results have been compared with those obtained with limestone. The zeolite 5A is a crystalline silicoaluminate material, with a ratio of ionic content (Ca++/ (Ca+++ Na+)) of about 0.9, and with size of crystals ranging from 1 to 5 µm.
Methods for quantifying the three defining rheological characteristics (deformability, flowability and segregation resistance) of SCC has been the Slump Flow, V-funnel and J-Ring tests. The results obtained, showed that zeolite 5A cause an viscosity effect, improving in some cases the rheological property respect to the fresh concrete made whit limestone.
Moreover in order to understand the effects of zeolite 5A synthetic addition, on macroscopic rheological properties of SCC, we also performed rheological tests on cementzeolite 5A pastes by using a rotational rheometer in asymptotic kinematics (small amplitude oscillations).
