Abstract: The application of SCC under in-situ conditions is still rather unusual. The inexperience of clients and contractors with SCC as a high performance construction material is therefore the reason for additional measures to be taken during the execution stage of projects. In 2000, a diabolo-shaped column has been cast in The Netherlands being one of the supports of a multiple span bridge. In order to control the casting process and to achieve most relevant information from this SCC project, an extensive measuring program has been developed.
Within the scope of this program, the hardening temperature, the formwork pressure, the uplift forces have been measured throughout the casting process and the mechanical properties up to an age of 28 days. As a reference, a similar measuring program has been conducted for one of the other supporting columns of the bridge, using an ordinary C35 mixture.
In the paper the field results achieved from the in-situ SCC cast column will be provided.
Emphasis will be on the Funnel times in relation to the formwork pressure and the up-lift forces as measured during casting. The main characteristics of SCC as experienced during casting a column with SCC will be presented and results will be discussed.
