Abstract: In future, cementitious materials and composites like any other building materials will be analysed carefully with regard to ecological, economical and social aspects. As a consequence, further developments will concentrate on new building constructions which take into account the conservation of resources either by a reduced energy consumption, possibilities of recycling and a re-use of materials or by a reduction of material with optimised cross-sections of structures. Especially the latter aspect can be regarded by the combination of different materials (composites). For this reason, during the last years the innovative composite of textile reinforced concrete (TRC) has been developed. The idea is to produce extremely thin-structured elements with a high tensile and compressive load carrying capacity as well as a high durability but offering a low weight.
The aim of this contribution is to show the complexity of TRC and to introduce examples of applications of TRC by already realised projects or prototypes.
