Abstract:
Electrochemical techniques are widely used for evaluation of corrosion process in the concrete immersed steel because they are easy to use, make possible the monitoring of the corrosion process along the time and most important, they are not destructive. On the other hand, the definition of the geometry and preparation of the samples, mainly concerning the steel-concrete interface, which is the measure reading area is a very important step in the process and can generate wrong results if not well applied. This work comes up with a proposal of a method of preparation of samples for electrochemical measuring at laboratory, simulating reinforced concrete, based on experiments carried out during years by the corrosion group of Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte situated in Natal (RN/Brazil). There were mentioned precautions and details to be observed during the process of geometry and curing of the samples, as well as the cleaning method and the preparation of steel bars before immersion in the concrete. Sample constructed using this geometry generated satisfactory results according to the reproducibility and repetitivity viewpoint during electrochemical measurements at laboratory.

Keywords: concrete, corrosion, electrochemical measurements, sample geometry, steel preparation.
