Abstract: Considerable progress has been made in understanding the cause of salt scaling, but methods for preventing the damage are more elusive. For internal frost damage, there is already a rather successful method of protection (viz., air entrainment), but the details of how it works are not clear. In both cases, our existing knownledge indicates particular paths of study that could lead to improved means of protection.
