Abstract: Recent progress in radar techniques and systems leaded to the development of an interferometric radar, suitable to the application in full-scale testing and monitoring of civil engineering structures. The main characteristic of the new radar system, named IBIS-S (Image By Interferometric Survey), is the possibility of simultaneously measuring the (static or dynamic) displacement of several points of a structure with high sensitivity. The new sensor and its working principles are described in a companion paper together with the results of live-load static tests performed on a full-scale bridge, recently completed in the neighbourhood of Forlanini Avenue (Milan, Italy). In this paper, the application of IBIS-S sensor to ambient vibration survey of the same bridge is presented and discussed.
