Abstract: International innovation and practice is reported in the use of georadar and NDT of masonry. Key problem areas of masonry structures and masonry arch bridges have been identified and appropriate NDT techniques targeted. Georadar and NDT are now established tools for the investigation of structuress. Some of the techniques used on concrete were capable of being transferred to new masonry, but not necessarily to masonry structures and arch bridges, with their special features. It has been shown that the most useful NDT techniques are georadar (GPR), low frequency sonic echo, sonic transmission and sonic tomography. Examples and quantifications are given in the paper.
