Abstract: Early-age cement hydration had been investigated by the electrical resistivity measurement. Sequential experiments like thermal analysis and ion concentration analysis as well as hydration heat tests were also carried out. Four hydration periods were divided by the resistivity change of the paste. The electrical resistivity of the paste grew quickly and Ca2+ ion concentration decreased rapidly at the beginning of induction period. Moreover, the decomposition temperature of calcium hydroxide (CH) in the hydrated samples also had notable change at that time. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG) analysis indicated that there was a transformation of high decomposition temperature CH to low decomposition temperature CH when the induction period began. Results also showed that the end of induction period had relation with growth of CH. The cement hydration mechanism during induction period and alike was discussed too.
