Abstract: The influence of SAPs on the durability of different concretes was compared to the one of concretes produced with conventional air entraining agents. The results showed a significant improvement of the freeze-thaw durability. The water absorption tests performed with mortars with SAP addition showed a likewise improvement. Both effects can be attributed to the densification of the concrete matrix by the absorption of pore water by the SAPs. Chloride migration was reduced due to the dense microstructure of the hardened cement paste.
