Abstract: In this paper, the reversibility and microstructure of a novel manganese dioxide electrode before and after aging disposal were investigated. Characteristics of electrodeposited manganese dioxide (EMD) reference electrodes were investigated by examining Cyclic Voltammetry, SEM and EDAX in synthetic concrete pore solution after aging disposal in 1 mol/L KOH solution or in distilled water. Results indicate that EMD reference electrodes showed desirable stability and reversibility in synthetic concrete pore solutions at room temperature. Further analysis proved that the film deposited at 0.5 V was an amorphous gellike product which indicated more dense and stable microstructure. Moreover EMD reference electrodes after proper aging disposal will obtain a stable mircostructure to resist the disturbance of Na+ ions.
