Abstract: This paper presents the results of modeling a non-standard compression test of timber, executed on small diameter cores in a special testing device. The test is a semi-destructive method that is friendly to historic timber. The course of the test is modeled in 3D. The influence of individual input characteristics, and also their scatter, is assessed by means of rank-order sensitivity analysis. The results are correlated with experimental data on core base deformations acquired by moiré interferometry. A combined numerical and experimental approach is used in a method enabling the measured displacements of the loading head of the special testing device to be converted to compressive strength and Young’s modulus of the timber.
