Abstract: High Performance concrete is usually regarded as resistant to chloride penetration and, in consequence, its testing may be time consuming or not reliable. Accelerating methodshave been used, mainly those which apply an electrical field, and known as "rapid chloride permeability test". However, this method has attracted a lot of criticism in the past and doubts of its ability to rank concrete quality has been commented. In present paper, the theoretical basis of the migration experiments is presented, together with results of testing a particular concrete made with silica fume additions. The results show the possibility of calculation of the chloride diffusion coefficient from these migration tests.
