Abstract: The service life predictions of marine concrete structures are commonly based on Fick’s
2nd law of diffusion, in which the time to onset of corrosion defines the end of the service life.
However, reliable data for this critical level are lacking, especially from field exposure of real
structures.
Probabilistic service life calculations of a marine structure are performed. A statistical model for the chloride threshold level derived from measurements based on corrosion sensors installed in a 37 years old jetty is applied. Further, the uncertainties in the chloride threshold value and the achieved design service life are studied.
