Abstract: St.-Barbara’s Church in Culemborg in the Netherlands has a history of moisture and salt damage to the plaster. In the past several restorations were performed, without a durable result. Finally, in 1997 test panels were applied in order to base the choice for new plastering on in practice proved durability. TNO Building and Construction Research used the church as a case study within the COMPASS project. The salt and moisture load in the walls and in the plaster of test panels in the church were determined. From these investigations, conclusions were drawn concerning the performance of different commercial restoration plasters.
