Abstract: This paper discusses about influences of chemical deterioration to mechanical characteristics of mortar. After a short-duration immersion test with NaCl solution of 10g/l concentration, flexural tests of meso-scale specimens with 70 mm in length, 5 mm in thick, and 30 mm in width were carried out. After these tests, tension softening curves are derived from load-displacement curves using a back analysis and the amount of chemical hydrates in deteriorated specimens are measured by chemical analytical methods. As a result, it was found that the amount of cement hydrate could be used as an index for modeling the mesoscale mechanical characteristics of mortar deteriorated in NaCl solution.
