Abstract: Based on fractal geometry theory and quantitative stereological method, the box-counting dimension of corrosion morphology was used in characterizing the nonuniform corrosion degree of steel bars. By measuring the surface profile of corroded steel bars, surface roughness and its distribution were also studied. As is shown by the results, corrosion morphology of steel bars has typical fractal characteristics which can be used to characterize the nonuniform distribution of corrosion surface. Arithmetical mean deviation of corroded steel bars profile followed a normal distribution and skewness are all less than 0. On the basis of existing models and experimental results, the constitutive model including corrosion coefficient was established which can be used in assessment, service life prediction and computer simulation of reinforced concrete structure.
