Abstract: As a kind of growing material, the service properties of concrete material partly depend on its evolution process in early-age period(30 days after casting). Furthermore, many properties of concrete at early age are associated with moisture movement inside concrete pores. To describe and predict the moisture transport inside early-age concrete, a macro model that represents moisture field has been built based on flow rules and balance of water mass.
Meanwhile, concept of specific moisture was introduced into this model to take account of the variation of hydration process and the effect of temperature. Furthermore, corresponding numerical methods of the model were developed for sophisticated initial condition and boundary condition. The validity of this macro model has been verified through comparison with the measurements of relative humidity in concrete specimens at early-age. Detailed comparisons between simulated results and experiments indicate the accuracy of this model on normal concrete.
