Abstract: Guangzhou Bridge Management Information System was established in 2004 based on the B/S three-level software structure and Web GIS technology. It consists of both network level and project level urban bridge management systems. This paper introduces the basic principles of the project level urban bridge management system and elaborates the effective and scientific lifecycle management for existing bridges.
The main contents of lifecycle management of an existing bridge include: Bridge investigation and checking, Bridge inspection, Bridge load carrying capacity assessment, Durability evaluation and service life prediction, Maintenance and repair strategy. These items are cyclic and updating processes during the whole lifetime and will be discussed in detail in the paper.
