Abstract: The majority of concrete repairs are related to corrosion of the steel reinforcement.
Whether these are in small patches or in large areas, rehabilitation by the use of electrochemical methods has been shown to be the most durable approach, providing an extension to the residual service life of the steel reinforced concrete component or structure.
This paper gives examples of achieving such durability by the use of galvanic anodes, presenting up to ten year results of point anodes in patch repairs and global corrosion control systems in larger concrete rehabilitation projects. As part of a structure management and maintenance programme, galvanic protection of the steel reinforcement can provide long and enduring performance with low cost monitoring and maintenance of the system.
