Abstract: Better knowledge of the self-healing rates of asphalt concrete would aid in planning its times for reparation and maintenance a pavement. With this aim in mind, this paper presents a straightforward method for evaluating the temperature influence on the healing times. This was accomplished by using the Arrhenius equation. To determine the apparent activation energy of the mastic for use in this equation, a series of healing tests on mastic were carried out at different temperatures and times. It was concluded that the apparent activation energy obtained by this method could be used to evaluate the temperature influence on the healing times of asphalt. Besides, the apparent activation energy obtained is very similar to the asphalt binder flow activation energy showed in the literature, which means that asphalt binder viscosity is the main parameter influencing the self-healing of asphalt mastic.
