Abstract: Based on the studies of predecessors, effective alkali was endowed with further definition that alkali entering into reactive aggregates. Based on a lot of tests on the alkali content in matrix and in reactive aggregates, a conclusion was drawn that the addition of fly ash could decrease effective alkali in reactive aggregates effectively. Both of the alkali content in concrete matrix and in the first 40µm layer of quartz glass depended on the total alkali content in concrete, the comprehensive activity index and the comprehensive acidity of binders. The relation expressions were set up with a high specimen determination coefficient. Based on Fick’s second law and a few reasonable assumptions, an equation describing the effective alkali distribution in reactive aggregates at different time and locations was established and the calculation results agreed to the experiments well.
