Abstract: Concrete is able to provide a highly durable, serviceable and attractive surface, but the quality of concrete pavements is often affected by conditions over which the designer and contractor have little control. This paper reports on the main causes of imperfections established by a comprehensive investigation performed at the request of the contractor on a concrete pavement made at the platform of an industrial building. The platform covers around 180 000 m2, and was built in the beginning of 2003. Since then, numerous maintenance and rehabilitation works to the platform have been done, especially by replacing the damaged panels. The aim of the investigation was to identify the main causes that led to the unacceptable performance of concrete pavement imperfections (CPI) claimed by the owner, and to recommend measures in order to ensure the future normal service of the pavement.
Performance analysis of concrete pavements (PACP), and the salient views from a running debate on the maintenance strategy implemented in this interesting case study are highlighted.
Some concluding remarks with a few recommendations for ensuring future performance as well as durability of similar types of concrete structures are formulated at end of the paper.
