Abstract: The construction engineering properties of the cement-based materials are studied for those that are produced by press forming technique and with the addition of construction waste and cinder in place of sand. Test results show that when varying amount of cinder (0~36% of the sand weight), along with construction waste (40% of the sand weight) are added in the cement-based materials, its flexural strength initially increases and then declines, with the maximum value occurring at the cinder dosage of 12% of the sand weight. Its water absorption capacity increases as the dosage of cinder addition increases. With a prolonged curing period, its flexural strength increases remarkably while its water absorption capacity decreases slightly. The freezing-and-thawing resistance of the cement-based materials with construction waste and cinder amended with construction waste and cinder is slightly lower than that amended with construction waste only, and thus less durable. A theoretical explanation is also provided in terms of the chemical and structural impacts of construction waste and cinder.
