Abstract: For the purpose of building basic understanding on mechanical characteristics of recycled concrete columns, an experimental program on axial compression and eccentric compression loading tests was carried out on 6 columns made of ordinary concrete and recycled aggregate concrete. The experiment focused on columns’crack development, failure mode, M-N curve and compression capacity under same load with the result indicating that crack development and failure process of recycled concrete column has little difference from that of ordinary concrete column, but the cracks of the former in this experiment appeared slightly earlier and more abrupt than those of the latter. Based on the analysis of compression capacity test results, the compression calculation applicability of recycled concrete column using current codes is researched in this paper.
