Abstract: Water dispersible polyisocyanate was synthesized by poly functional isocyanates (f>2) and hydroxyl containing co-reactants. The influence of water dispersible polyisocyanate on workability and mechanical performance of concrete were studied experimentally. The results show that fracture energy ratios of concrete with polyisocyanate polymer has been greatly improved by approx. 60%. The structure of polyisocyanate polymer and C-S-H composites was studied by XRD analysis. The results show some clear sighs for intercalation of the macromolecules were observed. The improvement of C-S-H by polyisocyanate molecules on nano-scale results in the increase of concrete toughness.
