Abstract: The International Conference on Material Science (MatSci) offers three separate lines which illuminate the world of mineral building materials in its diversity: 2nd International Conference of Textile Reinforced Concrete (ICTRC), Modelling of Heterogeneous Materials (HetMat) and Additions Improving the Properties of Concrete (AdIPoC). The present volume of the Conference Report deals with textile reinforced concrete. Concrete is a material associated with large dimensions, low tensile strengths and little attractiveness. The new developments towards high performance materials, however, show the total potential of this building material. Textile reinforced concrete which has been thoroughly researched during the last 15 years and put to use is a good example for the enormous efforts to promote new building materials and thus new forms of building in the sense of a sustainable development of building. Thanks to the funding of Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG (German Research Foundation), textile reinforced concrete is a building material whose basis was laid in the Collaborative Research Centres 528 (Dresden) and 532 (Aachen). It is increasingly used in façades, integrated formworks, sandwich elements, shells, sealing elements, building enhancements and even bridges. This pleasant development stemming from the idea to create a new composite material is a very beautiful example of the innovative power of research. We wish to express our special thanks to DFG for the support of both Collaborative Research Centres which will complete their work next year. In continuation of the first conference in 2006, the 2nd ICTRC compiles the current state of knowledge and the application of textile reinforced concrete. The high interest in this building material is reflected in the papers of the international participants. In this place, sincere thanks are given to all those who contribute to the success of the conference.
