Abstract: For dimensioning of textile reinforced concrete (TRC) elements and structures, the tensile strength of the composite is an important parameter. Respective values are usually derived from tensile tests with overcritically reinforced uniaxial tensile specimens. The results of those tests depend on various parameters, e.g. material properties, specimen geometry, load application and loading rate. This paper discusses influences from specimen geometry, i.e. plane and waisted specimens, and clamping design, i.e. stiff glued steel plates or soft clamping. Numerical simulations with a reduced two-dimensional model are carried out to determine corresponding stress distributions in concrete and reinforcing fibres as well as the composite tensile strength. Based on these results existing test setups for the derivation of the characteristic tensile strength for dimensioning are discussed.
