Abstract: 
This chapter discusses the effects of the formulation and chemical structure of one-part polyurethane (PU) and polyurethane-hybrid (PUH) sealants on their long-term performance in building joints. A detailed description of the base polymer and its contribution to the load-bearing properties of the sealant under stress-strain conditions during ageing is given. Cost considerations and their role in determining the level of stabilisation and the choice of raw materials and auxiliary components are discussed in view of their effect on the sealant's durability. Finally, a review of areas for future research is made, and recommendations for the development of new one-part PU and PUH building sealants are given.
