Abstract:
State of the art regarding local recycling industry France
Recycling of the rubble of constriction and demolition waste (C&D waste) started on a minor scale in the beginning of the seventies. At present there are about 30 mobile or stationary waste recycling installations (crushers) with capacities ranging from 30.000 to 300.000 tons a year. All of these recycling plants are situated in urban areas, such as the department (Paris), the neighbourhood of Lille, the Alsace and the Rhone-Alpes area.
The production of secondary materials has grown from 1,5 million tons in 1987 to about 4 to 5 million tons in 1996. The major part of this, i.e. 3 million tons, has been processed by the 22 recycling plants situated in Ile-de-France department around Paris [1]. It is estimated that a reuse level of 20 to 30% of the potential recoverable mineral material from the C&D waste is realised. However, the recycled aggregate production still only accounts for less than 1% of the French production of aggregates. List of major recycling plants in annex.
