Abstract:
Amounts of waste materials and recycled products
The Reykjavik and neighbourhood community waste plant collected the following amounts of building materials: Concrete and mortar estimated 2500 tons (probably only a part of the total as this applies only to the Reykjavik area), timber 8500 tons. There are figures available on metal (goes to a separate company, total metal waste in Iceland is some 2600 tons, the building-materials-part of that is unknown). These figures are from the only waste-plant (involves some recycling) in Iceland and the total number from all the country is not available.

The stony materials are used in fillings (mixed with earth and used e.g. for landscaping). The wood is chipped and used by the Icelandic Alloys Ltd. in their production process of ferroalloys, the metal is collected by a recycling company and shipped and sold aboard. The natural resources only applying to aggregates and products made of these such as cement, mortar, concrete (all other material imported; wood, glass and metal) are by far larger than the amount of waste from building industry.
