Abstract: The use of 20 % of crushed concrete aggregates in structural concrete is now an extended practice in many countries. Only concrete aggregates >=4 mm are used. Several separation techniques were presented at the Barcelona conference. Methods for guaranteeing the quality of all types of recycled aggregates are available, but in some countries a good quality is not reached, because the selection and the plants used are not adequate.
Shear behaviour of recycled structural concrete was discussed. Alkali-silica reactivity in reactive recycled aggregates is sometimes only manifested when cement having a high alkali content is used in the new concrete.
Further research on test methods for recycled aggregates is needed.
