Abstract: This report is aimed to provide a comprehensive description of the previous and current research conducted on the subject of ultrasonic wave reflection methods. Emphasize will be placed on the application of the technique to the testing of the hydration process of cement-based materials, although earlier applications to the ultrasonic testing of materials in general will be mentioned briefly. This report distinguishes from the state-of-the-art-report on mechanical waves used in through transmission mode. The expression "ultrasonic wave reflection method" as used in this report stands for techniques that evaluate the reflection of ultrasonic waves from an interface that is formed by the material to be tested and a buffer material with known properties. Fig. 1 shows a schematic of the wave reflection method as it could be applied for the testing of concrete.
