2025 RILEM L'Hermite medallist
Each year, RILEM assigns the Robert L’Hermite Medal to a researcher under 40 years of age, who has made an exceptional scientific contribution to the field of construction materials and structures. For this medal, already being a member of the Association is not a requirement.
The medal jury for 2025 was composed of: TAC Deputy Chair Prof. Daman K. Panesar (University of Toronto, Canada), Materials and Structures Editor-in-Chief Prof. Giovanni Plizzari (University of Brescia, Italy), Chair of TC 296-ECS and Bureau member Prof. Sylvia Kessler (University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg, Germany), and EAC Member and TC Chair of 282-CCL Prof. Fernando Martirena (Universidad Central de las Villas, Cuba).
For the 2025 L’Hermite Medal, 22 high quality applications were received.
The 2025 Robert L’Hermite Medal is awarded to Prof. Tommaso D’Antino, Associate Professor in Civil Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
The Robert L’Hermite medal is awarded to Prof. D’Antino in recognition of his research activity on composite materials for strengthening and retrofitting existing structures or as reinforcement of new concrete members. His internationally recognized expertise and leadership are testified by a remarkable publication record, including publications in Materials and Structures, as well as by his invited lectures to institutions in the UK, India, the USA, and Europe. He has also had research collaborations with prestigious universities in the United States. His involvement in international committees for structural codes and standards demonstrates his significant contribution to engineering practice for transferring research knowledge. Within RILEM, he has been a member of several technical committees and has also contributed to fib and ASTM committees. Some of his scientific contributions were included in design guidelines for fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) and fiber-reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) for strengthening structural members.
