The doctoral course "Hydration and microstructure characterization of cementitious materials course" was jointly organized by the Department of Structural Engineering, NTNU, Norway, and the Laboratory for Concrete and Construction Chemistry, Empa (Swiss Federal Materials Research Institute) Switzerland. It took place in Trondheim, Norway on 11-15 June 2018. It was co-sponsored by the RILEM Educational Activities Committee.

The course provided the students with an understanding of the typically used techniques for microstructure characterization of cementitious material and ability to interpret data.

The course is organized every other year.
