We are pleased to announce the 2020 Gustavo Colonnetti medalists:

  • Dr. Branko Šavija, TU Delft, The Netherlands

Branko Šavija is a civil engineer with a major in structural engineering, currently holding the position of assistant professor in the Materials and Environment group at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, TU Delft.  His research focus is on multi-scale mechanics of cement-based materials, numerical modelling of concrete durability and additive manufacturing of concrete and he has made an outstanding scientific contribution to this field. He has received notable recognitions such as the prestigious “Simon Stevin Gezel” prize, awarded in 2015 by the Dutch Technology Foundation (STW). Dr Šavija has been actively involved in the RILEM TC FTC on durability and service life of concrete under the influence of freeze-thaw cycles combined with chloride penetration, and TG 2.11 on digital fabrication with fib. He has been remarkably active on the fronts of doctoral and masters research guidance, as a journal peer reviewer and guest editor, and is currently a managing editor with Construction and Building Materials.

  • Dr. Mija H. Hubler, University of Colorado, USA

Mija H. Hubler is a civil engineer with specialisation in structural engineering, currently holding the position of assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering, University of Colorado, Boulder. Dr Hubler’s research profile spans both theoretical-analytical modelling and experimental investigation for predicting the performance of construction materials.  With outstanding research contributions in these areas, Dr Hubler has had a key role in the RILEM TC 242-MDC on multi-decade creep and shrinkage of concrete, and is an active member of ACI 209 on Creep and Shrinkage of Concrete and ASCE/Engineering Mechanics Division on experimental analysis and instrumentation. Dr Hubler currently guides a number of doctoral, post-doc and masters research candidates, apart from being a prolific peer reviewer for journals and research grants, and has patent applications to her credit.

They will be present at the Third RILEM Spring Convention in Guimaraes, Portugal.

Congratulations to Mila and Branko on behalf of the jury members, Prof. Nele DE BELIE, TAC chair and chair of the Medal Jury, Dr. Alexandra BERTRON, Prof. Daman K. PANESAR and Dr. Arun MENON
